Presentation of the Erich Fromm Prize 2017 to John Neumeier

Saturday, March 11, 2017, at 6 p.m. in the Lechler Hall of the Hospitalhof in Stuttgart (Büchsenstr. 33)

The director of the Hamburg Ballet, John Neumeier, who is internationally renowned for his ballet choreographies, was awarded the Erich Fromm Prize in Stuttgart on March 11, 2017. With his artistic life and work, he has made art an ambassador of humanity like no other.

Neumeier’s oeuvre reflects a focus on the examination of humanity threatened by social constraints. They are often troubled, wounded, failed people who appear broken on the outside, but to whom John Neumeier is able to lend a great inner dignity in his choreographies.
With his social commitment, he has done – and continues to do – an extraordinary amount to raise awareness and promote humane thinking in the spirit of Erich Fromm.
